How to Parry in Jump Showdown

Parry is a tap on the connect frame, not a hold. It is the skill that makes the Duels tier list make sense. Learn it after how to play and before you main Cursed Child.

Tap, do not hold

Hold F to block. Blocking cuts damage, eats stamina, and still loses to grabs, some unblockables, and rear hits. Tap F at the moment the attack lands to parry. A successful parry stuns and gives you the turn. Spamming F is how you eat the hit anyway — the how-to-play showcase calls this out in the first minute. On mobile, tap Block; on console, tap LB/L1. The controls hub is the bind chart.

Down slams and certain specials still go through a held block. If you are holding F because you are scared, you are already losing. Walk away, side dash, then tap. Side dash is also the answer to Chara’s opener slide on the boss.

Perfect block and Black Flash

Community docs describe a perfect block when you block right before an M1 or a front dash. Some kits (Edgerunner) have a dedicated perfect-block animation. Unsealed Sorcerer’s Ruthless Massacre contains a Black Flash as a cutscene beat; Zero Hour has a variant. Treat “Black Flash” as a named hit in those kits, not as a Street Fighter-style universal. If a page tells you every perfect block is a Black Flash, it is flattening two systems. Your job is still the tap.

How to train it

  1. Dummy or a willing friend, M1s only, for ten minutes.
  2. Add front dashes. Those are the greedy PC habit.
  3. Add one special. If you cannot parry M1s, you will not parry Onslaught.
  4. Take it into FFA before Ranked. Duels is a parry exam.

After parry, you usually have a 4-M1 into wall combo if a wall is behind them. That is the whole beginner offense. Awakening is extra. Scripts that auto-parry exist on the scripts page; they will not teach you the timing, and they can vanish in a patch. Learn the tap.

What you actually parry in public servers

M1 strings are the classroom. Front dashes are the homework. Character specials are the exam. Cursed Child’s Lethal Wound slide is the one new players hold block against and still eat — side dash it, then tap. Godly Highschooler’s rush tools want the same answer: do not backwalk with F held. Unsealed Sorcerer’s Palm Strikes can grab a scared block. If the move looks like a grab or a cutscene, assume it is not a parry and dash.

Duels raise the value of the tap because nobody else is going to clip the opponent for you. That is why the Duels ranking reads differently from the FFA tier list. If you can parry two M1s in a row on a dummy, you are ready for Casual. If you cannot, stay in the how to play loop. There is no unique parry-only YouTube that adds a new button. The beginner showcase already covers the tap; this page is the written rule so you stop arguing with chat about “block is parry.”

Frequently asked questions

What button is parry?

F on PC, Block on mobile, LB/L1 on console. Tap on contact.

Why did my parry fail?

You held, you were late, you were hit from behind, or the move was unblockable.

Is parry the same as Perfect Block?

Related, not identical. Perfect block is a tighter window some kits dress up.
